Kathmandu: In a bid to bolster good governance, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has emphasized the imperative shift towards a 'paperless and faceless' system for service delivery in the foreseeable future. Speaking at the 'AI for Prosperous Nepal, Employment for the Future' conference, he underscored the significance of prioritizing technological solutions for public services.
"The government is committed to taking essential steps for the advancement of computer technology, robotic technology, data science, machine learning, internet of things, and computational infrastructures," stated the Prime Minister. He further mentioned that the government would align its AI policy with the National Science and Technology and Innovation Policy, 2076 BS, and the Digital Nepal Framework, 2019.
PM Dahal highlighted the allocation of funds for the Science Technology Innovation Fund, demonstrating the government's commitment to fostering the science and technology sector. He directed the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to create opportunities for self-reliance in the technology sector, emphasizing the importance of science technology research and innovation in upcoming policy and budget considerations.
In his address, the Prime Minister urged government bodies to focus on developing projects that enhance the role of AI, fostering innovation and productivity. He announced the prioritization of 'ChatBot' services and AI-based metadata analysis projects to streamline government agency information services.
Expressing confidence in the conference's theme, 'AI for prosperous Nepal – employment for the future,' PM Dahal anticipated that the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and various stakeholders would contribute to realizing the vision of a prosperous Nepal.
Dahal asserted, "AI is a time-saving and versatile tool, beneficial for innovation and productivity growth in routine tasks and complex projects, ultimately contributing to tasks that are either time-consuming or beyond human capacity."
